Happy New Year - Updates on upcoming 2019 events

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year and welcome 2019!
We hope all of you had a good 2018 too!

2018 was a year of transition for the SingaporeConnect committee, and other key leaders in your community. We have seen the continuing engagement and support from the Consul-General of San Francisco Darryl Lau, who took over the position in 2017, and the transition of our SF-based US West OSU (Overseas Singaporean Unit) Liaison, from Stanley Leong, to David Ho, in 2018.

For 2019, we're currently working on two major events, both of which you'll hear a lot more of in the coming weeks.

1) Chinese New Year - in Feb. This event is being led by our enthusiastic member, Wilson Khoo, who is leading a small but highly motivated team of volunteers to help host what we know will be a fabulous event. We just started discussing this in Dec and we will need to lock down the location and date ASAP. With that done, those details will be published soon. Come help Wilson! Please drop an email to <singaporeconnect@...> and we'll put you in touch.

2) Singapore Community Day - most likely in Mar. This event is being coordinated by David Ho at OSU, together with a small but growing team of volunteers from across the spectrum of Singaporeans here. We started discussions in October and have been meeting at an accelerating pace over Nov and Dec. The Singapore Community Day 2019 event is going to be along the lines of the Singapore Community Day 2015 event, jointly organised by OSU and SingaporeConnect, which drew over 700 participants including many of you, for food, entertainment, prizes, games, and much more.

The 2015 event's theme was SG50. For 2019, the theme will be Singapore's Bicentennial (200 years since Sir Stamford Raffles found Singapore in 1819). We think there can be so much that can be done for this rather historic event - be it in fun activities around the theme, decor, food, and so on, but all those creative ideas need enthusiastic minds to conceive and willing hands to execute.

Excited? You can start helping now! If you're ready at this stage to be part of the core committee, please drop an email to <singaporeconnect@...> and we'll coordinate.
